Lasting Impression

“A woman can be over dressed but never over elegant.”
                                                             --Coco Chanel
Three… two… one... Happy New Years!  Okay, I am a little early, but you have approximately four days to figure out what you are wearing for New Years Eve.  This holiday brings out the best of the best in fashion because people know they are going to be seen by everyone, whether it's in person or on social media. You have one night to create a lasting impression from 2015 to 2016.  I have one word SEQUINS.  They are shimmery, shiny and a show stopper, especially when the light reflects off of them. You can wear a sequins dress, skirt, pants, shorts, shirt, or blazer (I think you get my point). Depending on where you are going to celebrate NYE, you can determine your best sequins look.  So I would say “Out with the old and in with the new with a touch of sequins.”  The countdown begins and you must create a lasting impression. Sequins will do the trick!

Black is Timeless

“Women who wear black lead colourful lives.”
                                    --Neiman Marcus

Over the weekend I made a trip to New York and while in SoHo shopping, I observed some of New York’s fashion.  I came across a lot of people wearing black.  When most people see others wearing the color black, mourning comes to mind or the popular 80s Goth fashion.  The color black is timeless and chic.  It’s a color that can be worn year round with the proper fabric choice because it draws in heat.  Linen and silk are great for spring and summer while flannel and wool are good for the fall/winter season.  Black is a go-to color for everything.  Just think about it, how many little black dresses do you own?  Black is slimming and looks good on all skin tones.  The downfall of black is that it can be one dimensional and look boring, that’s why when wearing the color, you have to make sure it’s flattering to your body type.  Pair an all-black outfit with a colored stiletto or add a bold accessory like a chunky necklace and even a colored lip.  Fashion trends come and go but one that will never go out of style wearing the color black.

Velvet for the Holidays

“If loving fashion is a crime, we plead guilty.”
                                  --Unknown

Happy Holidays!  The invites to holiday parties and phone calls to visit friends and family are starting to come, so you have to make sure you are on point from head to toe.  One thing about the holiday season is that it’s the perfect excuse to go shopping.  You have to buy gifts for others so why not treat yourself too?!  Typically you see people wearing cashmere and lace for the holidays but let’s cancel that look out completely and try something different.  During London fashion week, designers such as Christopher Kane re-introduced velvet to the fashion world.  Yup, I said it…velvet.  Believe it or not, velvet is hot, (literally cause you can break a sweat) but you know what I mean.  Velvet during the holidays is a must have and available in rich color shades that catches the attention of everyone.  It could be a blazer, jumpsuit, skirt or pant.  A perfect velvet piece to have for the holiday season is a dress.  It’s not heavy like you would think, it’s actually light and flows when you move.  While with family and friends this holiday season, make a toast to the designers for making velvet possible to wear again!

Bye Jeans, Hello Jogger Pants

"Comfy pants are the best part of my day."

                               --Unknown

Being comfortable can be something hard to do with fashion.  There are very few items a woman can have on and be comfortable wearing.  We all have worn tight fitting clothing such as skinny jeans and just have been like, “I cannot wait ‘til I get home and take these damn things off so I can breathe!”  Well, there’s an alternative to our tight, uncomfortable problem. It’s jogger pants! Both fashionable and comfortable, jogger pants are somewhat fitted but not too tight, they are also versatile from day to night.  Jogger pants are great for street style, work and play.  Pure perfection if you ask me!  Depending on your where you plan to wear your jogger pants and the look you are going for, they are available in leather, silk, cotton, prints and solids.  You can wear them to run errands with sneakers and if you don’t have time to change clothes, grab your stilettos and slip them on with your jogger  pants.  If you’re looking for style, comfort and fashion, just grab the jogger pants. Thank you to the fashion God for giving us joggers!

Picture Perfect

“Life is like a camera lens.  Focus on what’s important and you will
capture it perfectly.”

                                                         --Kushandwizdom.tumblr

Capturing the essence of people and encouraging them to feel rather than to think is what 29-year-old photographer Syranno have been doing for the past seven years.  Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, Syranno found his niche in photography three years ago while doing a photo shoot that took longer than scheduled.  When asked was photography his passion or hobby because he did not take control of the situation of the shoot, he then knew that he needed to take photography more seriously.  Since then, his passion for photography has evolved.  Working with eyewear designer Stevie Boi and America’s Next Top Model, Cory Wade, Syranno says, “My favorite thing to photograph are the details in anything.  When you highlight what something is made of it brings a new found love and respect for it” said Syranno.  In the future Syranno sees himself being internationally known and embarking on a journey on philanthropy.  Currently doing a project with PoshMe'ke, Syranno says, "I plan to make a lasting impression through amazing imagery.  You only get one chance at a great first impression and we plan on nailing it."

Feelin' Fauxy?

“You cannot fake chic but you can be chic and fake fur.”

                                                     --Karl Lagerfield

This fall and winter season the forecast calls for faux fur! When some hear faux fur they instantly think of inexpensive and poor quality.  That isn’t the case.  Faux fur is becoming a part of fashion must-haves and designers are making faux furs look more like real luxurious furs.  Wearing a faux fur is much better than a real one because harmless animals aren’t being skinned alive to make it.  It is also a good way to be trendy without breaking the bank.  Well, let me just say depending on where you get it from and who makes it, you won’t break the bank.  You can find faux furs at all different price ranges.  Stella McCartney's faux fur is priced at $2770 at Neiman Marcus.  Good lawd!  Faux fur just doesn’t stop at coats.  It’s expanding to vests, hats, gloves, sweatshirts and handbags.  I myself just ordered a beautiful burgundy faux fur clutch and cannot wait ‘til it arrives!  When you wear your faux fur paired with the right outfit, the combination creates a look of luxury.  I just love the way I feel in my fauxy!

High Fashion meets Retail

“Good fashion is evolution, not revolution.”

                   --Pierre Balmain

From east coast to west coast and Istanbul to London, hundreds of people stood in line for the release of the Balmain x H&M collaboration on Thursday, November 5th.  Individuals paid others to stay in line for them and some camped out overnight in front of select stores selling the collaboration of the two. When H&M opened their doors that morning, people ran in grabbing what they can.  Adults fought and trampled over each other, determined to get their hands on the collection first.  I looked at the Balmain collection being sold at H&M and don’t get me wrong, I like a few of the pieces and would have purchased them but to what extent do you go to get designer clothing at a discount price?

Balmain is an haute couture fashion house that was founded by Pierre Balmain in 1946.  His clothing starts around $1500.00 and up and has an extensive collection for both men and women.  The most expensive item in the women’s collection at H&M was a long-sleeved mini dress with hand-sewn beads, priced at $649. Is it Balmain taste on an H&M budget?  Other pieces in the collaboration of the two included leather and faux fur jackets, beaded clutches and shoes and embroidered tops.  This is where French couture meets urban chic.  H&M have been collaborating with designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Cavalli and Versace since 2004.  I’m looking forward to see what other designers they will collaborate with in the future.

Halloween Glam

“Clothes make a statement.  Costumes tell a story.”
                                               --Mason Cooley

“Trick or Treat!” someone yelled. I turned around and saw this lady dressed in an all-black fitted jumpsuit paired with leather over the knee boots. She even had on Ruby Woo lipstick to add that pop of color to her all black attire.  How could I forget her bunny ears, they were black lace with a veil that covered her face.  To complete her look she had coffin shaped nails with matte nail polish.  That’s hot fashion for Halloween!

October 31st is the one time of the year where you can be anything you want.  Be your alter ego but completed in a sexy, tasteful and stylish manner.  Spice up the costume with a statement piece or two.  It can be the makeup or the accessories that you wear with your costume.  For instance, if you choose to dress up as Minnie Mouse you could wear red shorts with yellow buttons, a black sweet heart top with sheer sleeves, black sheer thigh highs paired with black booties and white gloves. You can also add a little flavor through your makeup. This Halloween, ask yourself are you a Plain Jane or Plain Jane with a Twist?!

Are you the bomb?

“Every day is a fashion show and the world is the runway.”

                                                     --Coco Chanel

I remember my first flight jacket, it was all black and quilted and my sister had a multi-colored one made out the same material.  You couldn’t tell us anything, the jacket said it all!

Fun history fact:   Who would have ever guessed that the bomber jacket was developed for pilots during World War I?  In 1915, the Royal Flying Corps in Belgium and France issued their pilots long leather jackets that protected them from the cold weather.  The U.S. adopted the idea and eventually created a new design. The U.S. Army Air Corps decided to create a waist length jacket of their own and it was called the A-2 bomber jacket.  Not only did the military catch on to the jacket but the fashion industry noticed its popularity and made the jacket timeless.

Designers are taking the original silhouette of the bomber jacket and revamping it.  Using different fabrics and colors, adding embellishments, tailoring it or even creating an exaggeration through shapes. The jacket went from being a necessity during World War I to a symbol for strength, style, power, and leadership.  This jacket is worn by all ages from kids to their grandparents.  I love that the bomber jacket can be paired with something glamorous creating the perfect street style. Depending on your fashion style there is a bomber jacket for you.

Excuse me, can you pass my jacket please?

The Journey & Building a Brand Worthwhile

The Journey. Is like a roller coaster ride with unexpected twist and turns.  The goal is to stay on the ride and not fall off. No matter how much you plan, nothing ever seems to go as planned.  They say patience is the key to life and patient I am.
Waiting for those important moments and meetings that will set the foundation and making decisions that will ultimately shape your business and create its legacy.

Finding your way.  It is like being in the woods without compass. You know your destination, but you have to figure out how you are going to get there. Of course there are obstacles along the way, but overcoming these unforeseen events makes the ultimate goal that much worthy. I found courage in myself along with positive reinforcement to keep going. A special friend always emphasizes on the notion that there is nothing to fear but fear itself.  Being fearful will hinder you from becoming great and what you are destined to be.

Posh MeKe. The brand itself is me, encompassing fashion, style and creativity.  You Must Create is our slogan.  Im ecstatic to be able to introduce everyone to Posh MeKe.  My team and I are creating a world within the world, within the world of fashion.  This weekend was our first sample fittings.  It was absolutely amazing. Currently, we are preparing for our Fall/Winter 2016 launch.

The Team. One thing that I am learning along this journey is that you can get somewhere by yourself, but even further with the right people by your side.
Those who decided to join my world of Posh Meke and to help me build a brand worthwhile, thank you for believing in me, my vision and for your dedication. I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Sincerely,

Morgen E.

I rock Tom Ford!

“Dressing well is a form of good manners.”

--Tom Ford

We hear the name in songs and see the clothing being modeled on the runway, worn by celebrities and even smell the cologne on our men but who is this person behind the designs and the scent? Its legendary fashion designer, film maker and one of GQ’s 2015 top 50 best dressed men, Tom Ford.  Tom Ford’s designs are strong, sexy and exclusive one of a kind pieces that target confident women and men.  Some of Tom Ford’s inspirations come from his nights spent in NYC famous nightclub Studio 54.  The disco-era glamour became an influence in his clothing as seen in this year’s London’s Fashion week Spring/Summer 2015 collection.

As far back as I can remember, music have been bringing designers to the forefront, artists are not just wearing the clothes in the videos, but also mentioning the brands and giving designers recognition through their lyrics.  From Lil Kim and Puffy, to Jay-Z who wrote a song called “Tom Ford”. The designer himself was flattered that it was named after him and his favorite verse is “I don’t pop molly, I rock Tom Ford”.  In an interview done by Time magazine, Tom Ford said, “fashion doesn’t stop at clothes; fashion is everything--art, music, furniture design, graphic design, hair, makeup, architecture, the way cars look--all those things go together to make a moment in time, and that’s what excites me.”

Feeling great and looking amazing in your clothes gives one an instant sense of gratification and that is what fashion is all about.  Thanks for reading and follow @meke_poshmeke on Instagram to see exclusive glamorous designs by Tom Ford!

Fall is here!

Weather Forecast:  Cold Conditions & Hot Fashion

                                                      --Unknown

Time to pack up your sandals, linens, chiffons and floral prints and say goodbye to summer!  Break out your boots, jackets and scarfs and say hello to fall!  As the seasons change, so should your fashion.  Fall is the time when you can really show off your sense of style.  The richness of the colors and textures during this season are the best.  Pick colors that pair well together like grey and mustard, olive and gold, scarlet and camel when choosing your fall wardrobe this year.  Add some cashmere sweaters, mohair coats, and twill jackets to your collection.  Some of fall 2015’s most wearable trends graced the runway from designers such as Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, Tory Burch and Gucci wearing leather, car wash pleats, boho prints, chunky knit sweaters, and faux-fur stoles and checkered and plaids.  Think about how you dressed last fall and switch it up a bit. Experiment with different fabrics and colors that you normally wouldn’t wear and I guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.  This is just the beginning of what’s to come for the fall season.

Fashion Week

Every year the women of New York leave the past behind and look forward to the futurethis is known as Fashion Week.

--Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City

Last week from September 10th 17th marked the start of the yearly event that fashionistas from all over anxiously await.  Its Fashion Week! Where designers both old and new showcased their Spring/Summer 2016 collections.  Kicking off in New York, the runway included fashions from Tom Ford, Balenciaga, The Academy of Art, and Yeezy himself, Kayne West.  A lot of designers featured bomber jackets, capes on dresses, jackets and blouses, stripes, off-the-shoulder tops and fringed hems.  The most talked about show was from Givenchys Artistic Director Ricardo Tisci.  Honoring the losses from the tragic events of 9/11, he used a backdrop of New York City showcasing his collection.  Fashion week will continue in London (Sept. 18th- Sept. 22nd), Milan (Sept. 23rd - Sept. 29th) and ending in Paris (Sept. 30th- Oct. 6th).

Whether its in New York, London, Milan or Paris, Fashion Week is a platform for designers to express themselves and make statements.  Collections is a group of ideas transformed into materials, in which we call clothes that allow individuality. The power can be overwhelming, shocking, and brilliant as seen by designers such as Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Vivian Westwood and the debut collection by Brandon Maxwell.
