Fall is here!

Weather Forecast:  Cold Conditions & Hot Fashion

                                                      --Unknown

Time to pack up your sandals, linens, chiffons and floral prints and say goodbye to summer!  Break out your boots, jackets and scarfs and say hello to fall!  As the seasons change, so should your fashion.  Fall is the time when you can really show off your sense of style.  The richness of the colors and textures during this season are the best.  Pick colors that pair well together like grey and mustard, olive and gold, scarlet and camel when choosing your fall wardrobe this year.  Add some cashmere sweaters, mohair coats, and twill jackets to your collection.  Some of fall 2015’s most wearable trends graced the runway from designers such as Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, Tory Burch and Gucci wearing leather, car wash pleats, boho prints, chunky knit sweaters, and faux-fur stoles and checkered and plaids.  Think about how you dressed last fall and switch it up a bit. Experiment with different fabrics and colors that you normally wouldn’t wear and I guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.  This is just the beginning of what’s to come for the fall season.

Fashion Week

Every year the women of New York leave the past behind and look forward to the futurethis is known as Fashion Week.

--Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City

Last week from September 10th 17th marked the start of the yearly event that fashionistas from all over anxiously await.  Its Fashion Week! Where designers both old and new showcased their Spring/Summer 2016 collections.  Kicking off in New York, the runway included fashions from Tom Ford, Balenciaga, The Academy of Art, and Yeezy himself, Kayne West.  A lot of designers featured bomber jackets, capes on dresses, jackets and blouses, stripes, off-the-shoulder tops and fringed hems.  The most talked about show was from Givenchys Artistic Director Ricardo Tisci.  Honoring the losses from the tragic events of 9/11, he used a backdrop of New York City showcasing his collection.  Fashion week will continue in London (Sept. 18th- Sept. 22nd), Milan (Sept. 23rd - Sept. 29th) and ending in Paris (Sept. 30th- Oct. 6th).

Whether its in New York, London, Milan or Paris, Fashion Week is a platform for designers to express themselves and make statements.  Collections is a group of ideas transformed into materials, in which we call clothes that allow individuality. The power can be overwhelming, shocking, and brilliant as seen by designers such as Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Vivian Westwood and the debut collection by Brandon Maxwell.

White: Hot! or Not?

“Ignore the old rules.  White after Labor Day is glamorous.”

                                                                       --Michael Kors

As Labor Day is approaching, so is the question of should I stop wearing white or continue to wear it?  We all have heard the rule that you are only supposed to wear white from Memorial Day through Labor Day because it marks the summer season.

If you want to continue to wear white during the “off season” it’s your choice, but choose wisely when it comes to fabrics.  Summer white normally consist of light weight fabrics such as linens, chiffons and cottons.  At first I was against wearing white after Labor Day, but now I see that white is more versatile with the variety of winter white colors that include cream, off white, eggshell, and bone.  Those shades of white look so rich during the fall/winter season with the heavier textiles like wool, leather and knits.

Over the years fashion has changed and so have the rules.  With that in mind, will you retire your white or continue to wear it?
