Christian Louboutin

“The stiletto is a feminine weapon that men just don’t have.”

                                                    --Christian Louboutin

Creator of the iconic shiny, red-lacquered sole is Christian Louboutin.  Born in 1963 in Pairs, France, Christian Louboutin started sketching shoes as a teenager.  Inspired by a sign he saw that forbade women from wearing sharp stilettos because it would damage hardwood floors when they walk on them, Louboutin kept this in mind when he designed.  According to Wikipedia, Louboutin “Wanted to create something that broke rules and made women feel confident and empowered.”

Aiding with bringing stilettos back into fashion during the 1990s and 2000s, Louboutin designed shoes 4 inches and higher to lengthen a woman’s legs and to make women look and feel sexy.  His shoes are a statement piece to have in your closet just like the little black dress.  My personal motto is the higher the heel, the closer to God.  There is nothing like having a high heel to accentuate your curves.

Louboutin collections consists of not only women’s shoes but also handbags and men’s shoes and he recently launched a range of nail polishes, of course including his signature red color.  Louboutin shoes are timeless, iconic and cater to every type of woman’s style.

Rumor has it that bestselling author, Danielle Steel owns over 6,000 pairs of Christian Louboutin shoes and have purchased up to 80 pairs at a time.  Now that’s some serious shopping!

Nailed it!

“Your nails are a way to speak your style without having to say a word.”
                                                                 --Tammy Taylor

A trip to the nail salon is a bi-weekly, sometimes weekly ritual for women.  We have to make sure our nails are on point like our outfit.  It doesn’t matter if you get a manicure or acrylic fill, as long as your nails are looking good, you feel good!
Dating back to 5000 B.C. when nail art represented social status, Egyptian women decorated their nails with the juice of a henna plant.  Now days, our nails represent who we are and make a fashion statement.  Jai Panikhin, owner of Elysium in Owings Mills, MD and nail technician to Posh Me’Ke very own Morgen E. says, “My nails express who I am because they are always fierce and have an attitude of their own like myself.  My nails are always colored and done according to what’s in fashion but with a twist to make it my own.”

Nails and nail art have evolved over time.  There is more to it than just your basic manicure and solid color polish.  You have so many options to choose from on how to shape your nails, whether they are ballerina, almond, and coffin shaped, stiletto or duck.  Techniques, tools and polishes are used to give nails that “panache” as Morgen E. would say.  I myself, prefer the gel mood polish in vibrant fun colors for the summer and dark matte colors for the winter.

The next time you are at the nail shop, ask for something out of the ordinary for your nails and let your nails speak for themselves.  Remember this, it’s all fun and games until someone breaks a nail!

What's your shade?

“I can take on the world…but first I’ll need some lipstick!”

                                       ---Unknown

What’s the one thing you cannot leave the house without?  Mine is lipstick.  It’s a key accessory to a woman’s wardrobe and adds sex appeal to any look.  You can have on sweats with you hair pulled back in a ponytail or have on that timeless little black dress and just by adding some lipstick makes the look complete.

Executive Makeup Artist of Blush Milk and Honey (www.blushmilkandhoney.com), Frankie Bethea says “Lipstick pulls the look together.  It finishes a look and gives it personality.  Red is my favorite color.  I’ve been wearing Ruby Woo by MAC since 1996.  To me red lipstick means power and intensity, its riveting, seductive and bold.”

Finding that perfect shade of lipstick can be challenging. Not every color is meant for everyone.  But hey, you have to fail before you succeed.  Once you have the colors that work for you selected, buy one for every day of the week, one can never have too many lipsticks!

Whether you are a matte, satin and sheer, cream or gloss type of woman when it comes to finding your ideal lipstick, just remember this rule of thumb:  Make sure you don’t have lipstick on your teeth when you smile!

Balenciaga

“Balenciaga!”
---Myrtle Snow’s dying words in American Horror Story, 2014

Long before we knew about fashion lived the house of Balenciaga that was founded in 1914 by Spanish designer Cristóbal Balenciaga (1895-1972).  Opening his first boutique in 1918, Balenciaga fashions has been around for over 60 years and have been worn by the Spanish royal family to First Lady Jackie O. and Hollywood stars today.

Throughout the 1950s Balenciaga designed a variety of pieces that steered away from the typical hourglass shape that other designers were doing.  Some of these silhouettes included the tunic dress, a high waisted baby doll dress, the balloon skirt and a sack dress.  Not only did he contribute to making a new silhouette for women but his use of fabrics were impeccable.

Over the years Balenciaga’s designs have changed but still remained true to the original silhouette in some pieces.  You can find Balenciaga being worn by some of our favorite male and female celebrities and by Me’ke very own Morgen E., whom she also see as an inspiration.
