“The most alluring thing
a woman can have is confidence.”
--Beyoncé
Dressed in a glittery Givenchy tux, with a
wide-brimmed hat, Beyoncé was this year’s winner of the CDFA (Council of
Fashion Designers of America) Fashion Icon award. Announced by CDFA President, fashion designer
and queen of the wrap dress, Diane Von Furstenberg, Beyoncé proudly accepted
the honor.
Not only is Beyoncé slaying the music industry and
fashion but the highlight of the night was how she slayed her acceptance speech.
She acknowledged her grandmother, uncle and of course her biggest supporter her
mom. She thanked them for showing her
how to take risks, working hard and living life on her own terms. She talked about how her mom designed
numerous dresses for her throughout her career and how to her that is “The true
power and potential of fashion. It’s a
tool for finding your own identity.” The
best part of her speech to me was when she said “I want to say thank you to
every designer who works tirelessly to make people think they can write their
own story.” That statement hit home to
what my friend Morgen E. is doing with PoshMe’ke. She is creating
stories and identities for women through her garments like chapters in a novel. With her brand she creating her
overall view of the confident women.
